Rainbow Scrappy Saturday

March's color is red, but I'm still loving teal--

I'm not done with teal yet--more blocks will be made!  Please see everyone's posts at SoScrappy.

This week I bought a new thimble, I cannot hand sew without a thimble.  My finger is very thin and its hard to keep a thimble on.  But I ordered this one and so far its working pretty good--

The green part is soft rubber and the white section is very hard plastic.  I have to turn it on my finger a bit, I "push" the needle at about 3 o'clock and sometimes slide off into the green section--which is very soft!  It doesn't fall off my finger.

This week I've done some quilting and made four bindings and machine sewed them to the quilted tops.  They are now stacked on the hand sewing pile.

More sewing and quilting planned for the weekend.  Every day is one more day closer to spring!

Hello Lori, it seems we had the same idea about scraps this week! What a joke; There they are side by side. Your new thimble looks perfect, I almost always use one for hand sewing too.

I use a thimble, too. I used my grandmother's silver one for years but it was really too small for my finger so one year at a quilt show I spent my show money on a TJ Lane silver open back thimble that I absolutely LOVE. My grandma's thimble now sits with her small silver embroidery scissors in one of the glass mason jars on my studio window sill.

Jacob's Ladders are always good no matter what the color.
And I have skinny fingers (and fat body) so had a problem keeping thimble on and tried almost every make and model until I finally settled on one that costs about 1.97 or so...one of those metal ones with ridged top that comes in three different sizes.

That's an interesting looking thimble! I need a new one, too - I should keep an eye out for one like yours. Pretty Jacob's Ladder block in teal, too!

I've never gotten used to using a thimble, so I usually have a sore finger when doing a lot of hand stitching. That one looks very interesting.

I love jacobs ladder blocks! And since I don't even hand sew ( ha ha) I think you are miles head of me!! That thimble looks pretty cool though

I have several thimbles (old and new) but none are comfortable on my finger. I'm intrigued with the "vents" on this thimble. I think they would make a real difference.

Yay for quilted and ready to bind!

Love your block. What's the brand of that thimble? I have skinny fingers too.

Aqua can keep right on because it's so,pretty and mixes well. But red is good also. I haven't started any yet, just finished binding my farm quilt, hooray, and I can switch from the walking foot back to the 1/4-inch one. Have a fun week. Those finishes are so satisfying.

Once I found a thimble that fit me I guard it with my life! LOL

Today I will finish quilting a top that I bought at the vendor's mall at Quilt Nebraska in Lincoln years & years ago. It was meant to be hand quilted...and deserved to be, but that wasn't going to happen so I'm machine quilting it using the Baptist Fan pattern since it seemed the most age appropriate.

I just can't get the hang of using a thimble. I use the kind that just sticks on your finger tip and that works for me. I'm not quite finished with teal either. My English paper piecing has to be stitched together.

Interesting looking thimble. I didn't know how important thimbles were until I started hand quilting! What is the name of the thimble? I have never seen anything quite like it before. It looks comfortable. I have a hard time keeping thimble on as well.

Good evening, Lori,
I have my grandmother's thimble on my keepsake shelf. I haven't seen one like yours...it looks so functional! I love the quilt you just finished and was featured in your previous post. Take care, ~Natalie

Thimbles drive me mad. My thimble finger is oddly shaped, so I've always had a hard time trying to find something that fits. No luck whatsoever with metal ones.
Years ago I had a leather thimble that was perfect, but after years of use it wore out. They still make them, but the new ones aren't as good as they used to be... *sigh* (Why do I have a sudden urge to yell 'get off my lawn' and wave a cane?)

Glad the thimble is working out for you. I never got used to the feel of wearing one. Pretty teal block.

I've never been able to sew with a thimble, thankfully I don't need one most of the time. Gald you found one that works for you.
