Design Wall Monday and Weekly Goals

Still plugging along on the YoYo project.  I have 23 complete blocks.

13 more to go.  The center portions are done, I just have to add a row of sashing YoYos to each one.  You can't tell from the picture--but that stack of blocks is a foot high.   Please see everyone's Design Walls at Patchwork Times.

Goals for the week--
  1. One YoYo block
  2. One side of binding sewn down
  3. Work on a UFO
That will keep me busy.  I also have a Dr. appt and 3 days of volunteering.

The weather has been beyond gorgeous!  Saturday we attended a wedding in the park.  Normally a 2pm wedding in the park in July is hot and miserable. But Saturday the weather was perfect--low 70's and a slight breeze.  It could not have been more perfect.  And the cooler weather continues.  I'm taking full advantage of it--the windows are open and the air conditioning is OFF.

Last week our crops had a wonderful rain--somewhere between 4.5 and 7 inches.  And a week later another inch.  Ken has cheered up considerably (the farm wives out there know what I'm talking about) and now he's working on weeds.  There are areas you are unable to spray and he's out with the tractor mower.  Later this fall we can have it sprayed and won't damage nearby crops.

Design Wall Monday

Pajama pants for Mason.  You know--custom fitted.  Something with long legs and skinny body.  I found a free pattern and tutorial at Sew Jereli.

Check everyone's design wall at Patchwork Times.

Weekly Goals--
  1. Pajama pants
  2. 1 yoyo sashing
  3. bind one quilt
I'd like to have lofty goals and do lots of sewing this week.  Truth is--its a busy week and I'll be lucky to eat and have clean underwear!

Sunday Stash Report

Sunday, July 21, 2013
Its been a busy week.  Ken and I are in MN visiting/babysitting for Laura Beth and Nick.  Yesterday I made a quick trip to River City Quilts for a bit of stash enhancing.  My yoyo project needed more fabric for the sashing yoyos.

4 yards in--3 Thimbleberries and 1 Moda
Four yards in.  One yard cuts--all from the clearance table.  Three are Thimbleberries and one is a Moda.  Each yoyo sashing uses 20"--there is a little left over from each yard for my stash.  So my new numbers are--

Stash in this week--4 yards
Stash out this week--0 yards
Stash in YTD--71.5 yards
Stasn out YTD--89.5 yards

I'm ahead 18 yards!

See everyone's stash report at Patchwork Times.

Karla and I went to the Hospital on Wednesday--its an in-patient facility for all sorts of illnesses.  She had her "Wheel of Bald Eagle Trivia" and a touch table of different animal pelts with their skull (plastic cast--not a real one) and a flip card with information and pictures of each one.  All the items are meant to be touched and held--good for patients that have developmental disabilities or maybe dementia.  We also had tattoos, stickers, and animal track stamps.  My favorite thing is to put the tattoos on--they are the temporary tattoos you apply with a wet paper towel.  Sheesh--the first one I tried to apply was a mess!  I finally realized the patients had sunscreen on--and it wouldn't allow the tattoo to stick!

Karla and our Display Tables--we had hospital Staff to help us

Me with the pelts and a Staff helping me
It was a very nice morning--not too hot and a slight breeze.  Other displays were turtles, fish, frogs, toads and a salamander (yes--live ones from the Fish Hatchery and Aquarium).  They were planting seeds in cups, (I never did find out what they planted in them) and across from us they were making S'Mores.

Not much sewing except for yoyos this week.

Sunday Stash Report

Sunday, July 14, 2013
Several neck coolers were made on Friday--used 1/2 yd.  My new numbers are--

Stash in this week--0
Stash out this week--.5 yards
Stash in YTD--67.5 yards
Stash out YTD--89.5 yards

I'm ahead 22 yards!

See how everyone's stash report at Patchwork Times blog.

Yesterday the temp was 88F.  Dew point was 88.  And the humidity was 100%.  But it wasn't raining!

Overnight that changed, here is the view out my camper door--

Wet!  So far .70" of rain.  Everything is green and lush, including the weeds on my camping pad.  They do spray for weeds, but I have lots of plants in pots and I know they are afraid to get very close.  See the little PVC birdhouse in the upper left of the photo?  I made it modeled after a couple of different plans found on the internet--and I know there is a bird nesting in it.  It might be a warbler or wren--its a very small dull colored bird--but I've only had a few glimpses of it--I only go over there to fill the finch feeder.    I never painted mine to resemble a log, maybe by next spring I can get than done!

Motivation Friday

How did I do on my goals this week??

  1. Finish a yoyo block--no
  2. bind one quilt--no
  3. More Rainbow Scrappy blocks--no

Did I do anything this week??!!

I trimmed these blocks--

90+ blocks trimmed
These are from last year's Rainbow Scrappy Challenge.  They finish about 7.5"--I'm going to lay them out and see if I need more.   Maybe a 8x11 layout??

A little work on binding and yoyos but no finishes.

This month the Rainbow Scrappy color is Teal.  There are no "teal" fabrics in my 30's box.  I'll just work on the one's I haven't finished yet.

Ken and Ruby came for a visit.  Ruby is always afraid Ken will leave her.

She's learned he can't leave until he puts his shoes on, and if she's laying on them he can't sneak away.   If he's just sleeping she lays under the front of the recliner--

But then the thunder and lightning and rain came--and Ruby went to her favorite hiding spot--

Under the table!

A few days ago the maintenance guys came to fix a leak at the Visitor Center.  The outside of the VC is concrete and the drain pipes for the roof are inside the wall.   They needed to cut a hole in the wall to repair the leak.  The leak was in the theater--and they thought it would be an easy fix--the movie screen would cover the hole while they were working on it.  "Ummm--what screen?" I asked.  No screen--just a white wall!  Luckily the hole was quite low and easily fixed.

Men at Work
If you are wondering why there are 3 guys its not a "Tax Dollars at Work" picture.  One guy on the roof to make sure they had the right pipe, one guy reading the blueprint, (let's not cut the hole in the wrong spot!) and one man measuring.  Luckily the leak was at the bottom of the pipe (no one knew WHERE on the pipe the leak was) and the plan was to start at the bottom and keep enlarging the hole up until they found it.  Then two guys went on to other projects leaving just one to fix the leak and patch the hole.

Its hot and the air conditioner is running like crazy.  Tomorrow I volunteer.  What's been happening at your house??

Design Wall Monday and Weekly Goals

Monday, July 8, 2013
I finished 13 Super Star blocks (I already had 7 done) for the sew-a-long with Wedding Dress Blue.

No design wall here, I used my picnic table (the breeze was flipping them up and I'm standing on a cooler)  I'm trying to decide whether to leave the top at 20 blocks, or make 5 more.  And I'm not sure I like white borders, maybe a colored border on it--a GREEN one?   I love the stars--they finish at 16".  Although smaller pieces have their own charm, sometimes I like to see the pattern in the fabrics.  Especially since this is a scrappy quilt--and there are a lot of different fabrics!   Mary Kay--there are some of your fish in there, and Jackie--I know I saw a Christmas print from your box.  Vic--there is a bit of a civil war repro from you in there too.  That's what makes a scrappy quilt special--the memories.    See everyone's design wall at Patchwork Times.

Weekly Goals--
  1. Finish a yoyo block
  2. bind one quilt
  3. More Rainbow Scrappy blocks
That will keep me busy for this week.  Those are all the projects I have with me at the camper!  I will pull out a UFO or two to work on the next time I am at home.

The weather has turned warmer.  I have a few days off from volunteering and Ken and Ruby came to visit.  Life is good.

Sunday Stash Report

6 more yards out.  A few weeks ago I finished Henrietta's 4 Patch Posey and the front was from my stash.  So my new numbers are--

Stash in this week--0
Stash out this week--6 yards
Stash in YTD--67.5 yards
Stash out YTD--89 yards

I'm ahead 21.5 yards!

See everyone's stash report at Patchwork Times.

Rainbow Scrappy Saturday

Saturday, July 6, 2013
I finished a blue Rainbow Scrappy block.

Cecely held it for me.  I'm behind, but I'm catching up.  See everyone's blocks at sewscrappy.

Week in Review

Friday, July 5, 2013
Another week has flown by!  Summers seem to be getting shorter and shorter.  The weather has been beautiful--I've spent my evenings sitting outside watching the birds at the feeder.  Watering my flowers.  Reading.  Sewing has been sporadic, but I did finish another yoyo block.   9 more and then I can begin sewing the blocks together.

A few random pictures--

Karla received a long horn skull from a friend who raises longhorns.

Mason got a new bike--now the whole family goes bike riding together.

Happy 4th of July!
