Monday, September 30, 2013
This week I made two Rainbow Scrappy blocks out of teal 30's fabric and two Water Wheel blocks for my Basic Sampler Week 3.

See everyone's design wall posts at Patchwork Times.

Weekly Goals--
  1. YoYos
  2. Basic Block Sampler Week 4
  3. Rainbow Scrappy Blocks

As Karla walked in the door to the VC Friday she stopped to pick up this--

A Walking Stick!  She has sharp eyes, most the time you think they are twig or a piece of grass and not "see" them.

One evening was spent with friends--Howard invited us all for steaks.  They were excellent--thanks Howard!

Pat and I drove to Sioux City for a quilt show.  Here are a few pictures--

Five quilts using the same pattern--from a magazine but I forgot which one.

  A Halloween Witch.

Quilts using patterns from famous designers--

A Judi Niemeyer

A Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt--I'm not sure which one but I know Linda can tell me!!

Another Bonnie Hunter pattern--my favorite--Bricks and Stepping Stones--using old shirts (I think).  Lots of homespuns--I loved it.

And these next two--Mary Johnson!!

And then a few that just caught my eye--

Beautiful applique with scalloped edges--

Scrappy Nine Patches set on point with brown--

A Postage Stamp Quilt.  Yes--those are one inch squares!

Scrappy Delectable Mountains--

Pat and I did our usual scenic road trip. (we got lost, took the wrong turn, etc)  But we did find the Sgt Floyd Monument.  Sgt Floyd was the only person who died on the Lewis and Clark Trip.  He was buried near this spot.

It was a beautiful day shared with a friend.  Thanks Pat!  Look at that beautiful blue sky.

Overlooking the Missouri River from the monument.

Soon all the summer people will be heading out.  Pat and Randy leave Tuesday, the rest of us will leave in the next 2-3 weeks.

I'm buried in apples right now, freezing them for apple pie this winter.  We had rain (1.60 inches) and the weather is great.  Low 80's during the day with cool nights.  Tomorrow is more apples--what are you doing??

I have a Design Wall Floor.  The 36 Patch blocks are together--

36 Patch Blocks Rainbow Scrappy Challenge 2012

The Spinning blocks are together too--

Spinning Blocks Rainbow Scrappy Challenge 2012
I'm not sure how I'll finish them.  Maybe no borders on the 36 patches (more vintage looking??) but the spinning blocks need a border or two to stop the movement.  What do you think?

The Basic Sampler blocks Week 2 are done--

Basic Sampler Blocks Week 2
And I've been plugging away making YoYos!  See everyone's design wall at Patchwork Times.

Weekly Goals--
  1. More yoyos!
  2. Week 3 & 4 Basic Sampler Blocks
  3. Rainbow Scrappy blocks
Its fall weather at its best right now--warm days and cool nights.  Perfect camping weather.  Harvest is right around the corner.

  2. Sew all the 36 patches together
  3. Sew spinner blocks together
  4. Basic Sampler block
Its perfect camping weather.  Perfect sewing weather!  Other than the pesky flies (who invited them??!!) it couldn't be nicer.

And to my wonderful husband -- Happy Anniversary!

Stash Report Week 37 and a Finish

Sunday, September 15, 2013
Time for new numbers--

Out this week--6 yds
Out YTD--105.5 yds
In this week--0 yds
In YTD--114.75 yds

Stash is Ahead--8.25 yds

The race is too close to call yet.  The year is almost 3/4 over.  What are your goals for your stash report?  Mine--I want to stay within 50 (or even 100 yds) either way.  My goal is to use up some of my older stash and replace it with newer bits.  Refresh it.

My finish--

Toni and Vintage Reproduction
Toni held it for me. Thank you Toni!!  A copy of a vintage quilt done from my 30's stash.  More of a whole cloth type quilt--quilted with a teal thread and a feather panto.  Please see everyone's stash report at Patchwork Times

A new project has been started this week--the Basic Blocks Sampler.  The first block is a favorite--Jacob's Ladder.

Yes--its the design wall picnic table!  (patriotic vinyl table cloth--I love those stars)   A teal blue and a rust paired with the light apricot background.  Please see everyone's design walls at Patchwork Times.

Weekly Goals--
  1. finish one more YoYo block
  2. lay out a set of blocks to sew together
  3. work on doll quilt
That's about all I have at the camper with me.  The days are getting shorter but so far not cooler.  Have you started any new projects?  Finished an old one?

First I promised you a picture of my purchases(Design Picnic Table)---

The oriental print at the bottom is my focus and backing fabric.  The creamy yellow is the background.  The other fabrics coordinate (more or less).  These are for a sampler quilt (or two?) I'm participating in on-line.  I like samplers, love the variety of blocks and fabrics you can use.  The teal and periwinkle blue, the rusts/oranges and golds/yellows are all favorite colors.  Some blacks and browns will go into it as well.  See what everyone is working on at Patchwork Times blog.

Weekly Goals--
  1. Make sampler blocks (Jacob's Ladder)
  2. Finish a yoyo (almost done)
  3. bind orange/teal baby quilt
That's enough for this week.  Beautiful weather today, sitting around doing nothing is easy to do!

The year is 3/4 over, so far I'm happy with what I've gotten done.  I thought I would be further on my yoyos but that's okay.  I've been wasting time working on relearning an old hobby--crochet.  I think a dishcloth is what I'll work on.

Have you tried an old hobby this summer?  Thought about your goals?

Sunday Stash Report

Sunday, September 1, 2013
First--I have a finish.  Dee's Stars---

Jackie--you should recognize some of the fabrics--I know most the white is from your box, and there are other prints from it.  Mary Kay--there are fish and balloons and roses from your box.  This quilt was made using 5" charms I had cut from scraps---all KINDS of scraps.  It finished about 75x88"--a nice sized QOV.  It took a long time to finish the binding--it has a black border AND binding--and I could only work on it when the light was good.  The picture is somewhat washed out- bright early morning sunshine but the wind wasn't blowing!   11 yards used in this quilt.

Friday Pat and I went shopping--armed with coupons.  I can't find my receipt--but since I know how much I spent--I bought 40 yards.  And I bought 2.75 yds the week before.  Ouch!!

My numbers for 2013 are now--

Stash out this week--11 yards
Stash in this week--42.75 yards
Stash in YTD--114.75 yards
Stash out YTD--100.5

Stash is ahead--14.25 yards

How do I feel about my numbers?  Good!  The fabric I bought included focus fabric, background, backing and fabrics that would coordinate.  I bought fabric for a new project--a sampler quilt I'm doing with an on-line group.  Only one piece that was a "just because I like it" purchase, a teal 30's--remember in July I didn't have any teal 30's for my Rainbow Scrappy Challenge?  Well--I decided I REALLY NEEDED a teal in that quilt!  Later this week I'll try to take picturesSee everyone's stash reports at Patchwork Times blog.

A short whine about new technology.  About 6 weeks ago I bought a Nexus 7 tablet.  Not so much to replace my laptop--but I had worn out my kindle.  Android technology--I'm slowing learning the ropes.  But now Yahoo Groups is changing--I'm now "neo" whatever that means--but it mostly means I CAN'T ACCESS MY GROUPS or SOME OF THEM HAVE DISAPPEARED!!  (laptop and tablet)  I'm trying to be patient--but its getting harder.  If anyone can shed some light on this "new improved" stuff--please enlighten me!
