Design Wall Monday and Weekly Goals

Last night I hung these blocks on my wall--

Not the best lighting--there is a lamp on the upper left side that makes those blocks appear much lighter.  I need to play with placement and perhaps make a few more.  And there are half blocks to straighten the edges I haven't put up.  I made the last lavender block for my 2013 Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks--now I need to look for sashing fabric.  Pattern has a light calico small print--I doubt my stash has the 3.5 yds it calls for.  Please see everyone's design wall at Patchwork Times.

Weekly Goals--
  1. Sew Merry Go Round blocks together
  2. Work on Weeks 8 & 9 Basic Sampler blocks
  3. Eternal YoYo project
  4. Clean off quilting table
That will be enough for this week.  So many other non-quilty things to get done.  We're had a hard freeze--most my flowers are pretty dead.  If I get time I need to clear them off.

Rainbow Scrappy Saturday

Saturday, October 26, 2013
Since I used up all my black, I decided to make blocks in colors previously used.  Fill out my planned quilts.  Last night I made red blocks--

This week was 4 dark blue, two yellow, two teal, and two red.  With next month's brown blocks and I'll make one more purple block--that will make 40 blocks--enough for two quilts.  The vintage pattern has a small print sashing around the blocks--not sure if I'll add that.  I know I don't have any fabric for it--it would have to be a purchase.  Hmmm.

And when Mason is helping sew--he hangs "his blocks" on the design wall too.

The 30's box is still quite full.  Only a slight dent in it from Rainbow Scrappy Challenge 2013!

Are you thinking about next year? I've been thinking Granny blocks--using the Tutorial for Great Granny blocks at Bee in my Bonnet blog.  These blocks finish at 12".  I wanted to join in the Great Granny a Long in 2012--but it will just have to be a 2014 project.  Have you made plans for next year?  See what everyone's been working on at soscrappy.

Motivation Friday

I've been making more Rainbow Scrappy Blocks--

Two dark blue, two teal, two pink, and two yellow.

I have help in the sewing room this week--Mason.  In between rain showers we try to harvest.

Mason, Marvin (Ken's dad) and Ken.  Mason is very busy but also very good.  He rides in the combine, tractor, or pickup.  He watches cartoons, finds pins grandma has dropped, and sews with his own needle and thread.  He hangs his creations on the design wall.  I'd forgotten how busy a 5yo is.  Lucky for grandma he still usually takes a nap!

The Super Stars are now a flimsie--

There was a stiff breeze when I was taking the picture--just imagine it flat.  Thank you to Deanna at Wedding Dress Blue for sponsoring the quilt a long.

Mondays are my favorite blog day.  I may not always comment--but I've been there!  Seeing new projects, progress on old ones, and sometimes even a finish. Some pictures are just so intriguing!  See them all at Patchwork Times.

Weekly Goals--
  1. Rainbow Scrappy Blocks
  2. YoYos
  3. Merry Go Round blocks
  4. Sister's Choice blocks
That's enough for this week.  I'm hoping it dries off enough we can harvest.  Today it was cold and damp.  Is there weather better where you live??

Rainbow Scrappy Blocks

Saturday, October 19, 2013
This month the color is black/gray.  I don't have enough black/gray 30's to make another block.  Earlier this year I used my light blues, so I pulled out some dark blues.

I know I need 32 blocks--I'm planning one full size quilt (20 blocks) and one twin size quilt (12 blocks).  Unfortunately--my box of 30's fabric is still quite full!  This month I will remake a few of the previous colors.  See everyone's blocks at soscrappy blog.

This is what's on my design wall--

Four rows of Sister's Choice blocks sewn together--five more rows to go.  I made these 9 patches for a Quilt A Long with Crazy Mom Quilts.

And I put these on my design wall--

Super Star blocks from a Quilt A Long on Wedding Dress Blue blog.  I'm working on sashings and cornerstones.

And I finished the final seam on my Scrappy Trip Around the World--

Sorry--couldn't get the bottom part in the picture.  This time it was The Polka Dot Chicken blog! (Do you see a pattern here?)  Yes--I'm EASILY INFLUENCED!!!  If it's scrappy--I love it! I've been working hard to move these projects along.  Please see everyone's design walls at Patchwork Times.

Harvest is being delayed by rain.  sigh  Enough said.

Weekly Goals--
  1. Sashings on Super Stars
  2. YoYos
That will keep me busy for a week.  Tomorrow I'm getting my flu shot.  Having had influenza (twice) I don't want to ever have it again!~

Yesterday I worked on these--

The color for October is black/gray--and there is very little black and no gray in my 30's box.  These are for the 2013 Rainbow Scrap Challenge at soscrappy.  They are large blocks (18 inch) and my plan is enough blocks for two quilts.  The 30's box is still pretty full, I will make more blocks as needed.  See everyone's design walls at Patchwork Times.

I'm not sure where/what I'll be doing this week.  I only have a couple more days to volunteer--Gov't shutdown etc.  The Gavins Point Project had some leftover funding they are using so although all the campgrounds and the Visitor Center is closed--we are busy cleaning/organizing.  That is what the volunteers do at this time of year anyway so our plans haven't changed.  But when they shut the doors we won't be volunteering.  Wednesday may be the last day.

Weekly Goals--
  1. Basic Sampler Blocks
  2. YoYos!
That's it, I have too many non-quilty things to do.  When it dries off (its been rainy and damp) we need to be harvesting.  Did you see on your news about the tornadoes at Wayne Ne?  Wayne is not very far from our camper (about 45 miles)!!  Toni, Eddie, and I were in the safety of the administration building--we could see the rotation in the clouds above us.  Hard to think about tornadoes in October, but it does happen.   We just had rain--3.20" from Thursday through Friday evening.

Fall is here, I hope you have clear skies and gentle breezes where you are!
