I found a new use for selvages! I use them to make trellises for my young climbing plants! If they survive this year, they will "graduate" to a real trellis next year. These are Lathyrus Latifolius, or perennial sweet peas. They grow to about 6 feet tall and get like a bush, and bloom all summer with little care.
I have a holiday cactus that cannot seem to make up it's mind when to bloom.

I have been sewing for stress relief, every night I work on a few random 9 patches for amandajean's quilt a long. I now have 87 9 patches made, enough to make a small quilt.

Another week without adding to the stash! woohoo!
The 9 patches are looking great and you are way ahead of the curve with this project!

Hey girl, 9 patches look good! Even being a busy farm wife, you still can whip out the quilt tops! Oh the dryer just buzzed, got to go fold clothes!
The 9 patches look like fun! Good luck with your farmer's wife duties.
I do know there is a 'trick' to have that christmas cactus flower, I just can not remember it right now. I do know they never flowered for me. Also, I know that regular catcus' flower in the summer if they have gotten cold at night, warm in the day in the winter!! I couldn't figure out why my cactus's were flowering, till one night, very late, I watched this plant show and they explained it!! Talk about a light bulb going off!! these plants lived on a shelf in my sun room that got sun all day - and was not well heated at night!! Maybe that would work for the christmas cactus, but I am not sure... it comes from a different 'family' of catcus....
And I love your use of the selvages!! I use up my small strips of cut of fabric for the same thing. Also, it's cotton, it is a great compost item!!! cotton, many uses all the time!!
And your 9 patches, look great!!!
Have fun farming, but make sure you don't forget about us and keep showing off your stuff!! (hiddne meaning: make sure you sew as well as play with tractors and plant!!)
Have a great week!!!
Wow, so many 9-patches already! I am up to 6. lol
I haven't tried sweet peas before, but was reading about them this past weekend and hope to add them later, as I love having flowers with a scent!
I've dyed my selvage green and used them to tie up the roses for years... until I gave up on roses.
Love the nine patches, those are one of my favorite blocks.
your 9 patches are adorable! love how they look together@
