"Pastimes"

Thursday, September 3, 2009
I've read a lot in the last year about how people pursue their hobbies. Some have only one project and they work only on it. Some people have several projects in the works. Whenever I get the urge to become too focused on a project, I remember what my grandmother told me--"it's a pastime".

Mirriam-Webster's definition--
pastime-something that amuses and serves to make time pass agreeably

When I hop from project to project, I remember this, and I don't feel guilty about picking one thing up and then working on another. Remember to keep your projects fun!!

I feel blessed to have so many interests/hobbies to fill my time. Focusing on one would be too much like a job.

"It's a pastime." I'll remember that. Guess that's why I quilt, read, do genealogy, collect free digital scrapbooking stuff for "someday" and mess with the computer...they're all pastimes. A friend of mine has a husband about to retire and he has absolutely NO hobbies. She's dreading the day, says he'll probably just sit in his recliner & she'll have to clean around him. LOL

yeAH,I like that idea...but I'm like a butterfly who jumps from flower to flower...and if I'm not careful NOTHING will get finished!

My hubby always tells me: "Honey, it is just a hobby."

Guilt?? Guilt is how you feel when you are doing something for yourself. So, if you feel guilty it's a good thing!!!

I heard that somewhere and I always laught when I remember it. And I to have alot of things I like to do - part time... although sometimes if I let myself, I'll do it full time!!! And you have to - okay - reword that - I have to have many things at hand to keep my brain happy. Books, writing/journaling, TV, sewing, plants, pets, being outside... the list can just go on, but if you don't have alot of things to keep you occupied, you'd get bored!!! And boredome, but is not an option!!!
So, lets just make a pack to keep on doing our hobby, pastimes and whatever word you use to make yourself feel happy and peaceful!!!
and I should go back to it!!! (nope, not today, at least, not right now!! I reached my goal of what I wanted done by today, and now whatever I do is a bonus!!!) But sometimes, housework calls and you just have to answer...even is that answer is "no" - you can't be rude and ignore it's call!!!
