Sunday Stash Report

Time to update my numbers--

Stash in this week--15.5 yards
Stash out this week--0
Stash in YTD--130 yards
Stash out YTD--114.75 yards

Stash is ahead--24.5 yards

A necessary purchase, there is nothing in my stash to sash/bind my 30's Rainbow Scrappy blocks.  And I'm really wanting to get them done.  I brought home 3 fabrics--one is short by about 2 inches.  I'm auditioning the other two.

First--here's the original vintage quilt--

Here are the two prints I bought with the blocks next to them---

The left sashing is a floral/viney print.  The right sashing is a small mostly blue all over print.  I think both of these will work. (Remember--I have blocks for TWO quilts)  But--I have a couple of others to show you---

The left sashing has blue/orange flowers on it.  Too distinct I think.  The right sashing is a light blue print on white.  My blocks have all the same cream fabric in them--I think the white is distracting--need a cream/tan background in the sashing.  I'm planning on 20 blocks in my quilts with sashing around all the blocks.  Would make it come out to 87x111" which I think it a nice bed size.  The colors are more distinct in my blocks since they haven't been used 60 years and I'm trying to allow for that.  All but the last sashing have creamy backgrounds.  Please give me your thoughts.  See everyone's stash report at Patchwork Times.

Its been a long day.

Design Wall Monday and Weekly Goals

This week is a guest design wall--

Toni's table in her motorhome--covered with yoyos!  Last summer Toni and I caught YoYo Pox and we're still making them.  These are the ones Toni made THIS WEEK.  I'm not sure what Toni is making--but she's having fun.  Please see everyone's design walls at Patchwork Times.

Weekly Goals--

Merry Go Round Blocks
Week 10 Basic Sampler block
More YoYo sashings
Start Quilting 36 patch top

About half the Merry Go Round blocks are sewn in rows.  I'm caught up on the Basic Sampler Blocks.  The 36 patch top is loaded and ready to quilt.  Counted my yoyo blocks--sashings left on six blocks--then I can start setting them together.

But right now I'm busy harvesting.  Although we're in the last field, rain is forecast by tomorrow evening and I know we'd won't be done.  But, we plan on getting as much done as possible!  Today I decided combining corn is much like chain piecing--mindless driving back and forth and stopping to empty into wagons.  Are you busy sewing--or is there something else keeping you out of the sewing room??

Rainbow Scrap Challenge--Brown

Saturday, November 2, 2013
This month I made brown blocks--

Some people don't like brown.  Not me--I LOVE brown!!  I think brown goes with just about anything.  There are 40 of these blocks, enough for two quilts.  The vintage quilt in the magazine (McCalls Vintage Quilts--Spring 2004) has what's described as a "small floral print" sashing between the blocks and as a border.  I'll look in the stash again, but I don't think I have anything that will work.  I'm looking forward to Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2014--but until then I need to finish some quilts.  The 36 patch from 2012 is on the long arm--just waiting for me to have time to quilt it.  Please see everyone's blocks at soscrappy.

But now I have to head to the field, my husband has a combine warmed up and ready for me to go.
