Sunday Stash Report

Sunday, February 14, 2010
I look forward to "Celebration Sunday"!  I read through everyone's  blog (and I mean everyone--even if I don't comment I WAS there!)

This week I had a few busts that I had to wait to talk about--they were presents.  Yes, I MADE A COUPLE OF APRONS!

I made two aprons the same--only one picture.   And then Ruby the quilting dog needed a new collar cover for Valentine's day, it has pink and red hearts on it---

Usually I just make a scarf to run her collar through, but this time she got a girly ruffle. She also got a pedicure, but no red polish to match.

Bought this week--0.0
Finished this week--4.75 yds
Bought Year to Date -34.35
Finished YTD 41.60
YTD  +7.25 yards

I'm still plodding away on my projects, getting closer to finishes.  Soon!

My week has been busy but quiet.  Is that an oxymoron??  I have worked on the blue blocks and the bricks and stepping stones and made great progress.  I also picked out a top to load.  But I haven't made pillowcases yet, I still have time.  Maybe!!

My totals are the same as last week.  Nothing in and nothing finished.  I count "experiments into fashion" the same as I did Mason's crib sheets!  But I'm feeling good as I can see finishes coming up.  Stash reports make me focus and stay on track.   But, I still have lot of fun!!

Bought Year to Date -34.35
Finished YTD 36.85
YTD  +2.50 yards

Tonight went went to my sister Kathy and FAVORITE BROTHER IN LAW PAUL'S and had snacks and played cards.  I am sorry to report that the women WHUPPED the men BAD!  I made 5 kuchen today--4 cherry and one prune,  and a cheese ball, Ken picked up pop, chips, salami, and cheese at the store.  Tomorrow we are heading to Yankton to the Lewis and Clark Visitor Center for "Eagle Days".  I'm not sure what the program will be, last year there were several types of raptors and it was VERY up close and personal!

I've been having a great time--what have you been doing?  I find out all SORTS of things reading stash reports!!

And, as I watch the weather dumping snow all down the east coast, I am saying "Thank you Lord!!!"  I am counting down the days until spring!

Sometimes I think this should be called "Confession Sunday"!!  I don't feel guilty so maybe it should be "Celebration Sunday"??  My internet order came to 22.6 yards.  And two books!  But I did have some finishes!  I finished the Batik D9P quilt and made a matching pillowcase--that used 13 yards.  The pastel D9P quilt used 3.75 yards.  And I made two children's pillowcases--that used 2.3 yards, for a total of 19.05 yards used.

Year to date +6.05
Bought this week -22.60
Bought Year to Date -34.35

Finished this week 19.05
Finished YTD 36.85

YTD  +2.50 yards

I'm still in the black, but barely!  The completed quilts are in the dryer, I will take pictures tomorrow.  How are you doing??

You know, I look forward to these posts.  Mostly I look forward to reading everyones else's posts.  When you practice "retail therapy" you like to know you are not alone!

I bought fabric on Friday--6.25 yards.  I finished the navy blue bricks and stepping stones--that used 15.50 yards.  I finished two pillowcases for 2.3 yds.

So--

Year to date -5.5 yds
Bought this week 6.25 yds
Bought YTD 11.75 yds

Finished this week 17.80 yds
Finished YTD 17.80 yds

YTD +6.05 yds

I'm just barely in the black.  And, I pushed a few buttons this week!  Excuse me, I have to get back to sewing!

Easy stash report this week. Nothing in, nothing out! Still -5.5 yards for the year! But tonight (this morning??!) I finished the quilting on the blue bricks and stepping stones quilt. Just the binding left.

And the crown?? I am "Queen" of the Stash on Stashbusters. I must finish a UFO THIS WEEK or pay a penalty. I think today I'll wear this one! A little bling never hurt a girl!

The start of a New Year--will it be better than last year?? I think so!! I am starting out the year in the red, but that isn't going to last long! I bought 5.5 yards while I was in Minnesota. And I haven't finished anything--yet!! So right now I'm -5.5 yards.

We spent last week in Minnesota with our daughter and family. Ahh--yes, grandparent moments!! Grandpa did lots of babysitting, he's quite good at it!! Yes, Ken thinks he has read every book to Mason at least twice this week.

Since we've been home I've been catching up with laundry and putting things away. I think we caught a bit of a bug while we were gone, probably just from being tired. I spent most of today in bed. I found Ken asleep in the recliner. But I did some mindless sewing and sorting last night. I saw a new-to-me way to make flying geese at "Life's a Quilt" blog so I made 150 of them. Not sure what project they'll end up in, but I like the way "CrazyMomQuilts" used hers. I'm going to miss her blog! And I'm still whacking away at scraps. Henrietta has promised to help me use some of them, so I'm going to hold her to it. I think she better make plans for that noodle basket, it's full!

150 flying geese, bricks, and 2.5" noodles

I know it looks fairly small in the picture, but that basket of noodles is HEAVY! And overflowing.

I'm sure most of you have read about the 1 million pillowcases project with All People Quilt--if not please read about it on the Heartstrings Quilt Project page. I plan to make a few before the month is out. Mary has a great tutorial. I wish you all a great week!

Last stash report of the year. I am going to finish the year using two yards more than I bought. I've finished nothing (except the crib sheets which I didn't count--I haven't been counting fabric not used for quilting) and bought nothing. How have stash reports helped me?? It's given me ideas of how to use my stash, what I use the most, and when/if I need to buy fabric. Do I plan to continue next year--yes, and keep better records! Goal for next year--turn over more old fabric, more donation quilts, and work at using 100 yards more than I bought. Whew--I think they may be lofty goals--but goals are supposed to be something you work toward! Thanks for providing the incentive Judy!

I haven't started any projects over Christmas, the nasty weather makes me unfocused. So instead I have been ironing fabric from my scrap box, and cutting it into bricks, noodles, and string pieces. I'm sure I cut enough bricks for a full size quilt, and the stack of noodles is big too. I need to refold fabric and put it away, but then I will be ready to sew again.

Pretty quiet stash report--nothing in except thread and two patterns, and nothing out.  But by next week I will have a finish, I loaded a table top size UFO that has been here for at least 10 years.  And I would like to finish a slide show baby quilt.  So hopefully I will have pictures of some finishes soon.

No stash in, no stash out.

While I've been at Laura Beth's I have used two spools of thread! Can't believe the amount of thread I use, I had two of the regular size gutermann in my box, used those already, I am down to a black and a red. Oh dear, I will probably have to go to the quilt store to find some of that nice blending gray Aurifil~!

This week I have a finish--the light/dark string quilt--for about 8 yards. I really like it, it is very soft and cuddly with the fleece on the back. It will be donated to the VA nursing home near me. I did buy 2 yards of fleece and am already using it, it's the backing for a bricks and stepping stones quilt--FOR ME!! I have it loaded on the long arm, and hopefully it will be done by next week.

Goals, yes Judy, that's a good idea. Hmmm, I tend not to think in "yards" but as "projects". My goal is to FINISH a project a month for the rest of the year, using mostly stash fabrics. Not little projects, twin size or bigger maybe??

This week I bought fabric. I bought enough fabric my girlfriend asked if I needed an "intervention"! (crawling on floor laughing hysterically!) Yes, my best friend knows me!! In my defense, all was bought with a short term project in mind. She and I are swapping blocks made in pastels. I HAVE no pastels!! So this last week I bought fabrics for this swap, 20 different ones! 42 yards! There is enough fabric for two tops, borders, binding, backing of the swap quilts. And, I have enough pastel fabric to make a baby quilt (maybe two) for my daughter. Have I told you my daughter is pregnant?? I am going to be a GRANDMOTHER!!! I have no regrets about my purchases, I love them all.

So now I have to get sewing. Yesterday I quilted the light/dark heartstrings quilt and made the binding. Today I hope to sew it on. Tomorrow I am designated driver for sister and husband for Dr. appointments. So it will be a long day. Maybe I will have the binding on and I can sew as I wait.

The week in review--okay--it was pretty quiet! Can't put bread baking on the report. Finished the persimmon orange chinese coins. It's a twin size-so that's about 10 yards. All of it came from my stash. No purchases this week. Have some other projects in the works, but no other finishes. And I don't foresee any finishes for next week. Tomorrow I will try to take pictures of the persimmon quilt.
